Israel is a country located in Western Asia, but today, the more politically correct name for this entity is the State of Israel. Israel takes pride as being the only state in the world where Judaism is the religion of the majority or 75 percent of the population. It is bordered by mostly Arab countries such as Lebanon, Syria, Jordan and Egypt. The population is largely made up of Jews, as mentioned, and a small fraction of it is composed of Muslims, Christians, Samaritans, Druze and others. Of the huge percentage of Jews living in Israel, about 70 percent are born in Israel, with the rest of the fraction coming from the different parts of the world.

Compared to its neighboring countries, Israel is relatively small but has diverse topography and other land features. To date, Israel covers a land area of 20, 770 square kilometers and this does not include areas which were captured by the state during the Six-day war in 1967. However, according to the Israeli law, the total land area of Israel is 22, 072 kilometers and this includes east Jerusalem and the Golan Heights. But if one will include military controlled and partially Palestinian controlled territories such as the Judea and Samaria or as it is called sometimes outside Israel, West Bank, the total land area of the state now becomes 27, 799 kilometers.
